Disney Plans to Make Live-Action ‘Lilo and Stitch’

Mike Van Waes is being tapped to pen the remake of the hit 2002 animated film with Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich, the same producers of the “Aladdin” remake, who will co-produce the “Lilo and Stitch” live-action along with Ryan Halprin, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

 

The project, which is intended to be a CGI/live-action hybrid, tells the story of the bond that a lonely human girl, Lilo Pelekai (voiced by Daveigh Chase), from Hawaii who forms a friendship with an alien creature, Stitch (Chris Sanders), when she adopts him from a dog pound thinking he was a unique-looking dog.

However, it is later revealed in the story that Stitch was created only for destruction, but finds out that he is also capable of emotions after spending time with Lilo and her bigger sister, Nani (Tia Carrere).

It is still unclear, though, when Disney will release the “Lilo and Stitch” live-action project or if they will release it in cinemas or on its own streaming service, which is set to launch sometime in 2019.

So far no names have been dropped on who might potentially appear in the project.
