‘Mortal Kombat’ sequel adds Desmond Chiam, Ana Thu Nguyen
Desmond Chiam, Ana Thu Nguyen, Martyn Ford and Damon Herriman have been cast in New Line’s sequel to 2021’s “Mortal Kombat.”
Their roles: “Partner Track,” “Joy Ride” and “With Love” star Chiam will play King Jerrod, while “Suka” actor Nguyen has been cast as Sindel. Ford will portray the iconic Shao Kahn and Herriman will portray Quan Chi.
Their casting announcements follow the recent casting news of “Resident Evil” star Adeline Rudolph’s role as Kitana and “You” star Tati Gabrielle as Jade. Rudolph and Gabrielle previously worked together on “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.”
It was also previously announced that Karl Urban will portray Johnny Cage.
Returning cast: A swath of actors will return for the sequel, including Lewis Tan as Cole Young, Tadanobu Asano as Lord Raiden, Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Chin Han as Shang Tsung, Joe Taslim as Bi-Han and Sub-Zero, Hiroyuki Sanada as Hanzo Hasashi and Scorpion, Max Huang as Kung Lao and Mehcad Brooks as Jax.
Production details: Written by Jeremy Slater, the Simon McQuoid-directed sequel will continue the narrative of a group of martial arts fighters who defend Earthrealm from the Outworld. The film’s production is helmed by McQuoid, Michael Clear, Todd Garner, E. Bennett Walsh and “Aquaman” director James Wan.
