Deep Fried Pho is among the five savory finalists at Texas State Fair’s 2023 Big Tex Choice Awards.
About the food: Deep Fried Pho, made by Michelle Le, is a combination of the traditional Vietnamese comfort food and the southern tradition of fried food. The pho ingredients — noodles, beef, fresh herbs and bean sprouts — are rolled up, fried and served with sides of pho broth, lime, jalapeños, cilantro, hoisin sauce and sriracha.
About the awards: The Big Tex Choice Awards, which have been held since 2005, began in July with 57 entries from 37 concessionaires. While 36 entries made it to the semi-finals, only 10 finalists were selected from 19 savory and 17 sweet entries.
Other savory finalists include Deep Fried Cheesy Crab Tater Bites, Loaded Fries Pizza, OX’cellent Soul Roll and Turkey Ribs. All 10 contenders from the savory and sweet categories will be advancing before a panel of celebrity judges on Aug. 27 to compete for one of three winning titles: “Best Taste – Savory,” “Best Taste – Sweet” and “Most Creative.”
All finalists will be available at the Texas State Fair, which runs Sept. 29 through Oct. 22, allowing fairgoers a chance to sample the unique creations.
