‘Crazy Rich Asians’ To Receive Breakout Ensemble Award at the Hollywood Film Awards

“Crazy Rich Asians,” which is a film adaptation of Kevin Kwan’s novel of the same title, features a big-name all-Asian cast: Constance Wu, Henry Golding, Gemma Chan, Lisa Lu, Awkwafina, Ken Jeong, Sonoya Mizuno, Chris Pang, Jimmy O. Yang, Ronny Chieng, Remi Hii, Nico Santos, and Michelle Yeoh.

 

“Crazy Rich Asians” will receive the award at the 22nd annual Hollywood Film Awards on Nov. 4, 2018 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

While the movie was a huge success in the box office and received a whopping $228 million in the global box office, it reported that the film encountered some slight problems during production, specifically with Yeoh’s script for Eleanor Young, the mother of Nick Young (Golding).

Speaking in front of a crowd in London, Yeoh revealed that she was “very upset” with the first draft of her character’s script after she received it.

“Eleanor was written as nasty, mean, mean, not nice at all. I don’t think that Eleanor comes from that motivation,” the 56-year-old Malaysian actress said. “She comes from the love of her son and what it takes to be the wife and the strength that’s necessary when you put the needs of your family before your own.”

However, she later praised Jon M. Chu for being willing to make adjustments to the script from her feedback.

Even though “Crazy Rich Asians” was a huge hit in North American theaters as the highest-grossing romantic comedy in 10 years, it is still unclear if it will receive the same overwhelming reception when the movie hits Chinese cinemas on November 30.
