Chloe Kim Wins ‘Best Female Athlete’ at the 2018 ESPYs

Kim accepted the award at the show, which honors the best athletes of the past year as well as sports moments, on Wednesday, according to Bleacher Report.

The 18-year-old athlete bested fellow finalists Sylvia Fowles, Julie Ertz, and Mikaela Shiffrin, who was nominated for a second time in her career.

“Well I imagine this is how Frances McDormand when she won an Oscar,” she jokingly said in her acceptance speech, which is a reference to McDormand’s shoutout to Kim at the Oscars in March.

“It’s an honor to be accepting this award here tonight. This year has been filled with so many incredible memories that I will hold on to for the rest of my life,” she continued. “I wanna thank my sponsors for supporting me and believing in me always. I wanna thank everyone on my team for guiding me in the right direction. But most importantly I really wanna thank my family. They’ve sacrificed so much for me and they’ve always been there for me since the beginning.”

“Shoutout to them; never letting me let go of my dreams. And without all of this support and all of these amazing people in my life, I definitely would not be who I am today,” Kim said. “I am humbled to be here amongst many unbelievable athletes.”

Kim also took home several other gold medals from past competitions.

She was the gold medalist winner at the 2015 Winter X Games at Aspen, Colorado, for two consecutive years in the Women’s SuperPipe category.

Kim won another gold medal at the 2016 X Games in Oslo, Norway, and won gold at the Winter Youth Olympics that same year in Lillehammer, Norway.
