A woman from China was caught pouring soda on a bank ATM believing that by doing so, she could get her money back.
South China Morning Post reported the incident with the woman from southern China who was caught pouring soda on the ATM after she was tricked in believing it would help get her money back.
The 33-year-old woman, who is originally from Guangxi, was arrested for damaging private property.
As it turns out, she was scammed a couple of months back by a man who pretended to be a police officer. The man claimed that her bank details were vulnerable to leaks and instructed her to transfer $728 to a certain account where it can be “protected.”
The woman believed it and followed the man’s instructions promptly. The next day, the woman called the man and asked how she could get her money back.
The scammer then said that she would be able to get it when she pours soda on the ATM, which she ended up doing. She later realized that she was scammed after no money came out from the machine.
Now, apart from getting scammed, she will regrettably have to pay fine for damaging the ATM machine.
