By Bryan Ke
Following the recent success of their crowdfunding campaign to help Chinese businesses in New York City’s Chinatown, rapper China Mac and actor William Lex Ham are coming to Los Angeles for the #TheyCantBurnUsAll rally and march.
About the event: The Unity Rally and March Against Hate Crimes and Racism is set to take place on September 5 at MacArthur Park in Los Angeles.
- The rapper and actor will both appear at the rally, which will begin at 3 p.m. on Saturday, then followed by a 2-mile march at 4 p.m. and a finale rally at 5 p.m., according to Ham’s post.
- “Anti-Asian Hate Crimes are on the rise, and we cannot let our community suffer in silence any longer,” Ham said. “We MUST realize that as diverse the Asian diaspora is, Asians are generally treated the same in our country. So.. WE MUST UNITE, STAND UP, AND FIGHT BACK”
- Hong Lee (@mama_dolee), a woman who was harassed in a restaurant in LA last month, will also reportedly be present at the rally.
- “Now is OUR time to SPEAK UP about OUR experiences with hatred, racism and injustice,” Lee wrote in her Instagram post. “I took a stance for my children, future grandchildren and OUR future generations so that they may NEVER accept this conduct as the norm.”
Unite against hate and racism: Mac and Ham organized the event as a way to stand up to racism and hate against Asian Americans.
- Mac first organized a rally in early August to denounce the violent attack on the elderly Asian woman who was set on fire by two men in Brooklyn, New York on July 14.
