BTS’ Jungkook performs at 2022 World Cup opening ceremony
BTS’ Jungkook performed his newly released track “Dreamers” as part of the opening ceremony of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar over the weekend.
The BTS vocalist shared the Al Bayt Stadium stage with Qatari singer and producer Fahad Al-Kubaisi. Together, the two artists kicked off the opening ceremony and match between Qatar and Ecuador. The World Cup will see 32 teams square off until a championship team is decided on Dec. 18.
“Dreamers” is part of the 2022 FIFA World Cup soundtrack, which was released over the weekend to coincide with Jungkook’s performance. Other artists on the soundtrack include Nicki Minaj, Maluma and Myriam Fares for the song “Tukoh Taka,” and Davido, Trinidad Cardona and Aisha for “Hayya Hayya (Better Together).”
A music video for “Dreamers” will be released on Nov. 22 on FIFA’s official YouTube channel. “Dreamers” marks Jungkook’s third solo release of the year, following “Stay Alive” in February and the collaboration track “Left and Right” with Charlie Puth.
On the same day of the opening ceremony, BTS took home their fourth consecutive win for Favorite Pop Duo or Group at the American Music Awards. They also won in the new category Favorite K-pop Artist.
In related news, Jungkook wasn’t the only K-pop artist to collaborate with the FIFA World Cup this year. K-pop girl group ITZY shot a commercial with McDonald’s to celebrate the global sporting event as well.
