Actors Michelle Yeoh and Brendan Fraser reunite after 14 years

At the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival Awards (TIFF) on Sunday, former co-stars Michelle Yeoh and Brendan Fraser reunited after 14 years.
The two last crossed paths during the third film in the action-adventure “Mummy” franchise, 2008’s “The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor,” where Yeoh played sorceress Zi Yuan and Fraser played Rick O’Connell.
The two reunited and posed for photos together at the after-party event.
Yeoh and Fraser were seated next to each other at TIFF, where both received honors. Yeoh, 60, received a Share Her Journey Groundbreaker Award for her decades-long career as an actor while Fraser, 53, won the Tribute Award for his role in the film “The Whale,” where he plays a 600-pound gay reclusive father and teacher.
During her acceptance speech, Yeoh shared the challenges of being a woman in the film industry.
“As women, we are privileged to work in one of the most forward-thinking and open-minded industries, yet women are still glaringly underrepresented in the top levels of our industry,” Yeoh said. “So the privilege of being women filmmakers also comes with a heavy burden. In addition to often needing to be twice as good and often only half as compensated, we must also be leaders, role models, and beacons for the next generation, which is why we need to amplify our voices, challenge the status quo, and empower women to get involved both in front of and behind the camera.”
Meanwhile, Fraser expressed his gratitude for receiving the award during his acceptance speech.
“Wow, this is new for me because normally I am the guy at the podium who hands these things out,” Fraser said. “I think that the last time I waited to hear my name called out loud to receive an award was in grade 4 and it was from the peewee bowling league.”
