‘Blue’s Clues’ Pride Song in Tune With Filipino American Host’s View of Inclusion, Positivity
By Ryan General
“Blue’s Clues & You,” hosted by Filipino American Joshua Dela Cruz, released a new sing-along video celebrating the LGBTQIA+ community on May 28.
A sign of progress: The catchy ditty, which marks the arrival of LGBTQ Pride Month in June, reflects the host’s view of inclusion and positivity, CheatSheet reported.
- Dela Cruz shared in an earlier interview how he wanted to bring his “sense of peace” to both children and adults.
- “Because we are human, there are days when things don’t look so hopeful, and things kind of wear down on us a lot more,” he was quoted as saying. “But then we think about where we are as a society, undoubtedly things are getting better.”
- As a person of color hosting a beloved show for children, he said he felt a sense of responsibility to promote acceptance and inclusion in his platform.
- Dela Cruz, who is married to a white woman, admits that while “things are still not great” and society has “so much further to go,” he considers it progress that “maybe 70 years ago my wife and I wouldn’t have been able to get married.”
Updated tune: The “Blue’s Clues Pride” sing-a-along features drag superstar Nina West — from season 11 of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” — singing a new version of the song, “The Ants Go Marching,” Rappler reported.
- West sang with updated lines like “This family has two mommies they love each other so proudly. And they all go marching in the big parade!” in the video.
- In the clip, animal families with queer, non-binary and trans members joined an animated “Pride parade” with floats and different queer flags.
- “My pal Blue and I are welcoming Pride this year! Come sing with us!” West shared in a social media post.
- Another segment of the Pride series showed Blue and Dela Cruz opening mail from children who spoke about the gay and transgender people in their lives, The Washington Examiner reported.
