BLACKPINK’s Lisa sets three new world records
Guinness World Records
According to the company, the “Lalisa” rapper became the first solo K-pop winner at the MTV Video Music Awards and the first solo K-pop winner at the MTV Europe Music Awards for the Best K-Pop category.
Additionally, Lisa set a new record for the most followers on Instagram for a K-pop artist with 86.3 million followers. At this time of writing, her fellow BLACKPINK members trail behind with 73.5 million followers (Jennie), 67.8 million followers (Jisoo) and 66.2 million followers (Rosé) on Instagram.
These records come amid rumors that Lisa was offered $81 million by competing companies to leave her label, YG Entertainment. The future of BLACKPINK’s contract with YG Entertainment has been a topic of speculation, as the agency denied claims that the group would move to their subsidiary agency, The Black Label.
Currently, the quartet is on the Asia leg of their Born Pink World Tour, having most recently performed in Bangkok, Hong Kong and Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This spring, they will make history by becoming the first K-pop group to headline Coachella, alongside Bad Bunny and Frank Ocean. This achievement comes just four years after their debut at the Indio, California, festival, which was documented in their 2020 Netflix documentary “Blackpink: Light Up the Sky.”
