BLACKPINK’s Jisoo to release her debut solo album this year
YG Entertainment has confirmed that BLACKPINK member Jisoo’s solo debut album will be released this year.
We are currently in the midst of speedrunning the recording process for Jisoo’s solo album. The jacket filming was completed during BLACKPINK’s world tour last year, and Jisoo has been working on the music as and when time permits. We will meet you again with good news about the debut.
This statement lines up with Jisoo’s own confirmation of a 2023 release date in response to a fan question on Weverse on Saturday. The K-pop star has previously mentioned that a solo debut was planned for 2022, but it was pushed back to avoid any potential conflicts with BLACKPINK’s recent comeback album “Born Pink” and their current world tour.
Jisoo is the final member of the K-pop quartet to debut as a soloist. Jennie was the first with her single album “SOLO” in 2018, followed by Rosé’s single album “R” in March 2021 and Lisa’s single album “LALISA” in September that same year.
Although Jisoo’s official solo debut is still in the works, BLACKPINK’s eldest artist has already performed several covers of her own, such as covers of Zedd’s “Clarity” and Tove Lo’s “Habits (Stay High).” Most recently, Jisoo’s cover of Camila Cabello’s “Liar” performed during BLACKPINK’s ongoing “Born Pink” world tour earned praise from Cabello herself. They even performed the track together at BLACKPINK’s Los Angeles tour stop.
News of Jisoo’s debut solo comes days before the artist’s birthday, Jan. 3. As a gift to fans, she also created her own YouTube vlog channel.
