California and Texas dominate list of 10 best cities in US for Asian professionals
By Ryan General
Three cities in California have been named among the best places to be for Asian professionals in the U.S.
On Wednesday, the online marketplace Apartment List released the ranking to coincide with Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month in May.
Compiled by Apartment List and its Asian Pacific Islander employee resource group, API@A-List, the ranking shows Bay Area cities dominating with San Jose taking the very top spot and San Francisco grabbing the sixth.
Meanwhile, Riverside is ranked ninth on the list, making it the only Southern California city to reach the top 10.
The researchers came up with the ranking by reviewing 50 cities and rating them in four categories: community and representation, economic opportunity, housing opportunity and business environment.
The complete top 10 best U.S. cities for Asian professionals were listed as follows:
- San Jose, California
- Raleigh, North Carolina
- Houston, Texas
- Dallas, Texas
- Detroit, Michigan
- San Francisco, California
- Honolulu, Hawaii
- Austin, Texas
- Riverside, California
- Washington, D.C.
U.S. Census numbers reveal that San Jose has an Asian population of 382,815, San Francisco has 300,339, and Riverside has 314,998.
The list also highlighted Texas for its over 50 percent growth in the Asian population in Dallas, Houston and Austin, indicating potential opportunities for Asian professionals and business owners.
North Carolina also offers potential as Raleigh was ranked No. 1 in two out of four categories: population growth and homeownership rate.
Overall, the study placed California as the best state overall for Asian professionals.
The state is currently home to the largest Asian population in the United States. A 2021 Pew Research Center study revealed that it had roughly 6.7 million Asian residents in 2019, nearly a third (30 percent) of the Asian population in the U.S.
