Babymonster shatters YouTube records with explosive MV debut

YG Entertainment’s latest girl group, Babymonster, has broken the record for the fastest K-pop group debut music video to reach 50 million views on YouTube.
Record-breaking debut: YG Entertainment announced that Babymonster’s debut single, “Batter Up,” had surpassed the 50 million views mark on Dec. 1 at 7:48 a.m. KST, a milestone achieved in just under four days and eight hours since its release on Nov. 27 at midnight KST. The achievement eclipses the previous record of 50 million views achieved in five days and 23 hours, set by Aespa‘s “Black Mamba” in 2020.
“Batter Up” also set a record for most views for a debut music video within 24 hours in K-pop history, surpassing 22.59 million views. As of this writing, the video has accumulated over 55.6 million views.
Global domination: Babymonster’s official YouTube channel has witnessed a substantial increase in subscribers, gaining nearly 380,000 new followers since the music video’s release. The “Batter Up” music video secured the top spot on the global YouTube daily popular music video charts for an impressive four consecutive days.
Beyond YouTube views, the group has also conquered the charts on major international streaming platforms, including Japan’s Line Music and China’s QQ Music.
Unprecedented promotional strategy: Babymonster’s achievements come amid a lack of traditional promotional activities like press conferences and music show appearances.
YG Entertainment has assured fans that the multinational group — consisting of Ruka, Pharita, Asa, Ahyeon, Rami, Rora and Chiquita — will showcase their charm and talent in various shows. The group recently teased that they are set for a special debut dance performance for “Batter Up” on Dec. 4.
The group is currently awaiting the return of member Ahyeon, who is recovering from a health issue.
