Awkwafina to Reportedly Join The Rock and Kevin Hart for ‘Jumanji 2’
By Ryan General
Awkwafina’s Hollywood stardom continues in 2019 with the announcement of a new role in a blockbuster movie sequel.
The “Crazy Rich Asians” star is reportedly set to star alongside Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart and the rest of the original main cast in the sequel to “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle.”
The 29-year-old actress is already in final negotiations to land the role in the still untitled sequel.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the upcoming flick will also see the return of Jack Black and Karen Gillan, who will be both reprising their roles.
Sony’s 2017 film, which builds on the 1995 movie adaptation of the 1981 picture book by Chris Van Allsburg, made a whopping $962 million at the worldwide box office upon its release. The movie’s director, Jake Kasdan, will also be returning to helm the film and co-write the script with Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner. While plot details for the upcoming movie have yet to be revealed, sources say Awkwafina will be playing a “key” and “significant” character.
Awkwafina, who also goes by her birthname Nora Lum, was a revelation as an actress in 2018, showing off her acting chops in two major productions last year: the star-studded “Ocean’s 8” and the monumental “Crazy Rich Asians.”
This year, the multi-talented New Yorker will also star in two indie films, “The Farewell” and “Paradise Hills,” which are both set to premiere at the Sundance Film Festival this month. An autobiographical TV series, “Awkwafina,” is also set to launch at Comedy Central soon.
