T&T Supermarket, Canada’s leading Asian grocery chain, is finally opening a branch in the U.S.
The location: Announced on Thursday, the first-ever T&T store in the U.S. will open in Bellevue, Washington, in the summer of 2024.
“T&T Supermarkets is marking 30 years as Canada’s favourite Asian grocery store with the announcement that it will soon open a store in the United States,” the grocery chain’s website states.
“After 30 successful years in Canada, we couldn’t be more excited to bring our unique offering closer to home for customers in the United States,” CEO Tina Lee said in a recent press release.
The 76,000-square-foot branch will also serve as a flagship store and will purportedly become the “largest Asian supermarket in the state.”
In the press release, Bellevue Mayor Lynne Robinson said they are thrilled as the new T&T branch will add to the city’s “rich food scene and the vibrant culture.”
Other plans: T&T is notably planning on establishing its regional office in the greater Los Angeles area.
About the chain: T&T was founded in 1993 by Cindy Lee, an immigrant from Taiwan. The mother-of-three opened her first grocery store in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada, with the help of her husband Jack Lee.
The grocery chain’s name is a reference to her two daughters, Tina and Tiffany, as well as two initial investors.
