An artist has caught the attention of Reddit users with a reimagination of Poké Balls that look like the Pokémon inside them.
Reddit user u/threerobots shared their work on the subreddit r/pokemon on Monday to showcase some of the Poké Balls they designed and rendered using 3D computer graphics software Blender.
Their post, which has garnered over 6,400 upvotes as of this writing, features a 35-second video showing the Poké Balls for Blastoise, Lickitung, Mewtwo, Meowth and Machamp.
I always thought it would be cool to have a Poké Ball that would take on the appearance of the caught Pokémon so you would know which ball has which Pokémon,” the artist explained in their post’s comment section. “So I designed and rendered 151 Poké Balls of the Kanto Pokémon.”
In a longer video uploaded to their YouTube channel Here’s Wally, the artist explains that these new Poké Balls, called “Ditto Balls,” have “the “latest development in Poke Ball technology” that incorporates Ditto’s ability to mimic other Pokémon.
Wally, a character shown at the beginning of the video, talks about the Poké Balls in a similar fashion to how Professor Oak gives his introduction in the classic Pokémon games.

This innovative new Poke Ball takes on the appearance of the Pokemon caught within it, making it easy to identify and organize your Pokemon collection. … No more guessing… A quick glance is all it takes. Currently… the Ditto Ball can transform into any of the original 151 Pokemon of the Kanto region, with plans to expand its transforming capabilities.

The Reddit user shared that it took them around 100 hours to design all the Ditto Balls and 200 hours to render them over the course of a few months.

The Pokémon featured in the video are all from the first generation and can be found in the Kanto region, which is where the classic Red, Green, Blue and Yellow Pokémon games take place.
While the first generation of monsters was released on Feb. 27, 1996, in Japan and on Sept. 28, 1998, in the United States, they are still popular more than two decades later.
Some of them were even included in the latest Pokémon franchise installment, “Scarlet and Violet.”
Several Pokémon fans shared their amazement in the Reddit post’s comment section.
“This is the single coolest post I’ve seen on Reddit,” a Reddit user wrote.
After seeing Blastoise I figured it would be the 3 starters,” another user commented. “Upon seeing the Likitung one I was like ‘what the hell is that one.’ Very cool.”
We need these in the Pokémon games!! And by we I mean me,” another user said.
One Reddit user asked the artist if the artwork can be 3D printed, to which they replied, “I’m still learning blender and unfamiliar with 3d printing. I’m not sure how suitable these models would be for 3d printing.”
