A man believed to be a member of a group that has been targeting Asians in home invasion robberies was arrested in Washington state on Wednesday.
Latest incident: The man was arrested in connection with an attempted break-in at a home in the 31000 block of 117th Place Southeast in Auburn on Oct. 19. The 2 a.m. incident, which was caught on security video, involved two other suspects.
The invasion apparently failed as the homeowner “quickly started firing shots at the intruders through the door,” according to Auburn police. The suspects returned shots as they fled the scene, but no one was hurt.
The arrest: While escaping, the trio dropped a cell phone that police then recovered and used to track the arrested suspect. The man was found with a stolen pistol with an “illegal switch” in his waistband, according to KOMO News.
Criminal history: The suspect, who is yet to be publicly identified, has a long history of violent crimes and was recently released after a 12-year prison sentence for assault, KOMO News reported. At the time of his arrest, he was also on release conditions related to an identity theft case in Pierce County.
What’s next: The suspect is facing possible charges of first-degree attempted robbery, first-degree assault and first-degree unlawful possession of a firearm, as per King 5 News. He remains held on a $1 million bail.
Authorities are still looking for his alleged accomplices. Anyone with information is urged to call Auburn police at 253-288-7403.
