The Youngest MMA World Champions in History are Asian Siblings
Mixed martial arts is one of the most popular sports today. Millions of people around the world tune in to catch the most amazing action in the cage. Throughout the years, stars have risen to a massive scale. Athletes like Conor McGregor, Ronda Rousey, and Jon Jones have become household names.
But there are two world champion martial artists, making a name for themselves halfway across the world. They are MMA’s youngest world champions in history, and just happen to be brother and sister! Plus, they are also incredibly Asian.
Meet Angela and Christian Lee
At 20 years of age, Angela Lee became ONE Women’s Atomweight World Champion following a spectacular performance in 2016 over veteran Mei Yamaguchi, a woman nearly two times her age. With the victory, Angela became the youngest female MMA world champion ever.
Just this year, Angela’s brother Christian followed in her footsteps, as he won the ONE Lightweight World Title also at the age of 20. Christian had to get past the legendary Shinya Aoki to claim the belt, again a man nearly twice his age. Christian is today the youngest male MMA world champion in history.
What these two siblings MMA stars have accomplished so far in their young careers is absolutely extraordinary.
They are uniquely Asian
Although both Angela and Christian grew up partly in Canada and in Hawaii, the siblings share a unique Asian DNA with their father Ken being of Singaporean descent and mother Jewelz being of Korean descent. Inside the cage, they represent their father’s home country of Singapore.
Together, Angela and Christian have steadily seen their stars rise in the sport of their choice over the past few years. Today, they are two of the most well-known MMA athletes in Asia and in the world.
Where can you watch Angela and Christian?
The two both compete under the ONE Championship banner. You can catch them compete live on the ONE Super App, available on both Android and iOS. In the United States, ONE Championship bouts are broadcast on Turner and on B/R Live.
Angela returns to action this October as she defends her ONE Women’s Atomweight World Championship against China’s “The Panda” Xiong Jing Nan, while Christian is awaiting his next challenger and has no bout scheduled as of yet.
