Angry Mob Tries to Strip Air France Execs Naked Because They Plan to Layoff 2,900 People
Yesterday, Air France executives were brutally mauled outside of Charles De Gaulle Airport after finishing a meeting that finalized a reconstruction plan that will result in 2,900 layoffs company-wide by the end of 2017.
While Air France President Frédéric Gagey escaped unharmed, the deputy head of human resources at the company, Xavier Broseta, and another executive were forced to fight through a crowd of several hundred angry employees to get to safety, according to the Guardian.
The executives can be seen frantically racing to officials and being pushed over a fence as they try to escape from shouting employees chanting, “Naked, naked.”
Although the layoffs will consist of 1,700 ground staff, 900 cabin crew and 300 pilots, many agree that there is a better way to deal with the issue than resorting to violence. Prime Minister Manuel Valls said at the airline’s headquarters in Paris on Tuesday:
“This image isn’t the true image of Air France and it doesn’t mirror France.”
French President Francois Hollande told reporters in Le Havre that this type of behavior is “unacceptable” and that it paints the entire country in a bad light.
Valls furthered that those who began the riot need to be brought to justice:
“This is the work of thugs and the authors of this unspeakable violence must be identified. Images of this type of violence against men hurts our country.”
