Aespa to be first K-pop group to attend Cannes Film Festival
Aespa is set to make history as the first K-pop group to attend the Cannes Film Festival.
On April 27, aespa’s agency SM Entertainment announced that the girl-group quartet will attend the event as global ambassadors for luxury Swiss jewelry brand Chopard, which has been an official sponsor of the film festival since 1997.
“Aren’t they a very cool K-pop group? It has a huge influence not only in Korea but also in Asia,” Chopard President Caroline Scheufele told W Korea in May 2022. Their music and all elements are connected one by one. Like a happy diamond. And for the first time, they will be the first Korean ambassadors to Cannes.
Other K-pop stars will also be attending this year’s Cannes Film Festival, which will take place from May 16-27.
F(x)’s Krystal Jung will attend for the Korean film “Cobweb,” while BIBI will attend for “Hopeless.” BLACKPINK’s Jennie has yet to confirm her attendance for her new HBO series “The Idol,” which will premiere out of competition.
Prior to the festival, aespa is set to release their pre-release track “Welcome to MY World” on May 2. It will be followed by the release of their third mini-album “MY WORLD” on May 8. The album, which was allegedly delayed by SM founder Lee Soo-Man, will feature several new songs previewed at aespa’s SYNK: Hyper Line concert in February.
Aespa will also make history as the first K-pop group to perform at two notable music festivals: Governor’s Ball in New York and Outside Lands in San Francisco.
