Aespa’s fictional AI system Nævis to debut as an artist at SXSW
Artificial intelligence (AI) system Nævis, from K-pop girl group Aespa’s fictional lore, will debut as an artist at the group’s upcoming virtual reality (VR) concert at South by Southwest (SXSW).
Nævis was previously introduced as the AI system that connects the Aespa members to their virtual counterparts, or “æ’s” within the group’s lore. Fans previously believed Nævis to have died sacrificing herself to help Aespa, as seen in their music video “Savage.”
SM, however, is planning to debut Nævis as its own “AI artist.”
Nævis will perform during the 20-minute experience set in Kwangya, a fictional metaverse that features in SM Entertainment’s shared lore, particularly Aespa’s. Group members Karina, Winter, Nigning and Giselle will perform a medley of hits, including their debut single “Black Mamba.”
According to Lee, Nævis’ voice will be created using samples from 12 different voice actors.
“She will be an artist born by mobilizing skills for natural movements, newly created voice, and real-time communication,” Lee explained.
Prior to SXSW, Aespa will hold their “SYNK: HYPERLINE” concerts at the Jamsil Arena in Seoul on Feb. 25 and 26. The group’s second night at the arena will be livestreamed for global audiences through streaming service Beyond LIVE.
The K-pop quartet will make their SXSW debut sometime from March 10-19.
