3 UCLA Basketball Players Arrested in China For Shoplifting at Louis Vuitton
Three UCLA basketball players have been arrested in China after they were caught attempting to steal items from a Louis Vuitton store next to their hotel.
Twenty police officers were called to the hotel on Tuesday at 8:00 a.m.where the teams were staying. They brought both UCLA and Georgia Tech players into a room where they were questioned “for hours,” according to ESPN.
The officers used language like “If you don’t tell us the truth, you are not going back home.”
“They weren’t messing around,” the source told ESPN. “The kids were scared.”
Shortly after, they arrested LiAngelo Ball, the younger brother of Lakers point guard Lonzo Ball, Cody Riley, and Jalen Hill. Georgia Tech players Justin Moore, Jose Alvarado and Jon Brown were questioned but not detained.
Georgia Tech released the following statement in response:
“We are aware of the matter involving UCLA student-athletes and we are gathering more information. During the questioning, it was determined that Georgia Tech student-athletes were not involved in the activities being investigated. They will rejoin the team on Tuesday and resume their scheduled activities in advance of Saturday’s season opener vs. UCLA in Shanghai.”
UCLA also issued their own responses:
“We are aware of a situation involving UCLA student-athletes in Hangzhou, China. The University is cooperating fully with local authorities on this matter, and we have no further comment at this time.”
The teams are expected to visit Shanghai Disney Resort on Wednesday.
